Gas leak results in evacuations, road closing in Lexington, Thursday afternoon

Old Cherokee Road, from North Lake Drive to Pilgrim Church Road, was closed for a gas main break, Thursday afternoon. The road was open only for local access up to Cherokee Pond Trail from North Lake Drive .The road closure lasted until about 7 p.m. Residents were evacuated from their homes where it was necessary.
