Lexington County deputies arrested a man after he attempted to run over a child with his car.

Raheem Smith, 33, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes, according to arrest warrants.

“Detectives recovered footage from a doorbell camera of Smith trying to run over a child after they got out of Smith’s car,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “The child was able to avoid being hit.”

After the victim ran inside, Smith is seen removing the doorbell from the front door in an attempt to obscure evidence of the crime.

“Deputies also found Smith to be possession of a firearm,” Koon said. “He was previously convicted of a felony that carries a maximum penalty of more than one year in prison.”

Smith is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
