Lee Street in Cayce has been repaved, and to be renamed in honor of former Mayor Pro Tem Skip Jenkins and Public Safety Officer Eddie Brown

The resurfacing of Lee Street in Cayce is complete, providing a smoother and safer road for residents.

“The resurfacing of this two-block road marks a $134,938 investment in District 2 and the City of Cayce,” said Dist 2 Cayce City Councilman Byron Thomas. “The repaving was made possible through a strong partnership with SCDOT and Lexington County Council. We are grateful for their collaboration in helping deliver this important improvement for our residents.”

Thomas also said he appreciated the City of Cayce’s Planning Commission approval of the renaming of Lee Street and everyone involved.

The street resurfacing is tied to the honorary renaming of the street to recognize former Mayor Pro Tem Skip Jenkins and Eddie Brown, the first Black public safety officer for the City of Cayce.

“Most importantly,” Thomas said, “this moment allows us to recognize two individuals whose contributions have left a lasting impact on District 2 and the City of Cayce. Former Mayor Pro Tem Skip Jenkins, the longest-serving councilman in Cayce’s history, and Eddie Brown, the City’s first Black public safety officer. Both gentlemen dedicated their lives to public service and helped shape the community we know today.

“To ensure their legacies are properly honored, I have asked our city manager to coordinate a formal ceremony recognizing these distinguished individuals and their families once everything is complete.

We look forward to celebrating their contributions and continuing our work to strengthen District 2 and the City of Cayce for all residents.”
