Dr. Angela Cooper named Lexington 2 Schools Superintendent
At a special called board meeting Tuesday, Lexington Two’s Board of Trustees announced Dr. Angela Cooper as Superintendent beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Dr. Cooper has been serving as Interim Superintendent since February, and as Superintendent Designee before that, following Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner’s retirement announcement last fall.
Dr. Cooper has worked in K-12 education for 25 years, 19 of those in Lexington Two. She most recently served as Chief Human Resource and Organizational Development Officer. She was selected last fall as the national Personnel Administrator of the Year Award by the American Association of School Personnel Administrators, as well as South Carolina School Administrator of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). She has supported learning in the classroom with a laser focus on attracting and retaining the best teachers, a critical factor impacting overall student achievement. She also has expanded alternative certification pathways, developed growth and support systems for new educators, and focused on retention across the district.
Prior to coming to Lexington Two, Dr. Cooper served as Director of Human Resources for Edgefield County School District and was an Instructor and Employment Training Specialist with Piedmont Technical College. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology/education from Lander University, a Master of Human Resource Development from Clemson University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a focus in Human Resources from Nova Southeastern University.
“Dr. Cooper has earned state and national recognition as someone who builds relationships, approaches challenges with innovation, and keeps students at the heart of all we do,” Board Chair Kevin Key said. “Dr. Cooper knows this district and community well, and the board looks forward to continuing to work with her in building a culture of excellence in Lexington Two.”
Dr. Cooper begins her role on July 1.
“I am deeply honored by the Board’s trust and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving a community that has meant so much to me for many years,” Dr. Cooper said. “Lexington Two is more than a school district — it is a family grounded in a shared commitment to our students and to one another. Together — with our Board, our educators, our families, and our community partners — we will continue building on the strong foundation already in place, while moving forward with clarity, unity, and a relentless focus on what is best for our children.”
