Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the two people who died in a two-vehicle accident in the 5200 block of Platt Springs Road, near Lexington, in Lexington County on Wednesday, at approximately 11:30 p.m.

According to Fisher, Mrs. Gloria Martinez Alonso, 24, and Miss Elisa Martinez, 1, of West Columbia were traveling eastbound on Platt Springs Road when they were struck head-on by a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Platt Springs Road. Mrs. Alonso and Miss Martinez were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital with injuries.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
