Winter Storm Watch in place for Lexington, and surrounding Counties, with possible freezing rain, sleet, and snow over the weekend

A winter storm is expected for Lexington County, with the possibility of freezing rain, sleet, and snow.

The ice accumulation is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service, Columbia.

Forecasts, regarding timing, and precipitation type, continue to change for the weekend, but a Weather Alert Watch has been issued for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday regarding the threats.

There is the potential for mixed wintry precipitation, with accumulation expected. The accumulation could cause power outages and other road hazards.

The Winter Storm Watch is in place starting Saturday morning for Lexington County and: Kershaw; Fairfield; Newberry; Saluda; Richland; Lee; Sumter; Calhoun; and Aiken. The Winter Storm Watch will last through Monday afternoon.
