Widening of North Lake Drive in Lexington planned

The third phase to improve Lexington’s North Lake Corridor is set to begin this spring. 

Phase III (Construction to begin in May or June) – Includes corridor Improvements from existing Dreher Street to North Lake Drive at Sunset Boulevard. It expands North Lake Drive to Herndon Chevrolet. The project is funded by hospitality tax proceeds. 

In his State of the Town address, Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall said the town is spending $9 million in road and traffic improvements. 

The project also includes changes to the entrances and student drop-off locations at Lexington Elementary and Lexington Middle. That is managed Lexington School District 1.

Starting at the end of the One-Way Pair to the North Lake Drive at Sunset Boulevard intersection, the improvements will focus on safety and operations along the corridor that serves over 40,000 vehicles per day.

Phase I – included the widening of North Lake Drive from the One-Way Pair split at Church Street to the existing Dreher Street. The objective of the SC-6 One-Way Pair Project is to make the intersection of Main Street at N, Lake flow more efficiently.  

Phase II – included the Harmon Street Extension and relocation of Dreher Street to North Lake Drive at Azalea Drive.
