“My grandson is in the 5K class at Riverbank Elementary,” said Patti Krantz of West Columbia. She was at Carraway Park at the Riverwalk at 212 Hudson Street on Tuesday. “He loves this park.”

It’s billed as an All-Inclusive Playground – A Place for All Children to Play Together. The park features the following:

  • Restrooms
  • Covered Picnic Tables (First Come, First Serve)
  • All-Inclusive Playground
  • Free Parking
  • Access to the West Columbia Riverwalk Park, which is located across the street
  • There is plenty of ADDITIONAL parking in the Court Street Parking Garage.
  • Note: No glass containers allowed; No alcoholic beverages allowed.
  • Service animals are welcomed in all areas of both the park and playground areas; any other animals are not allowed in the playground area and must stay on leash.

The park was packed Tuesday morning with children ranging in age from toddler to teen.

“The park is safe, it’s well-maintained, the rest rooms are always so clean and it’s fenced in. I like that. There’s a picnic area too if you want to bring snacks.”

Krantz said She and her grandson came to the park in the morning, left for lunch, and then came back in the afternoon.

And it’s not just West Columbia residents coming to the park.

Brenda Buzzard. has two grandsons, Christopher and Bryceland, ages 6 and 4.

“We come to West Columbia from Gaston,” she said. “The boys love this park. I do too. We come as many as four times a week. It’s the cleanest park around and I feel safe here. It’s usually packed, too, so there are plenty of other kids to play with.”

There are many other parks in West Columbia that are attracting visitors during Spring Break.

Hayley Brockington and her two daughters were at Fowler Community Park at 1800 C Avenue, Monday afternoon.

As the weather warms and nature rejuvenates, Fowler Community Park becomes an excellent spot to enjoy outdoor picnics under the shelter. The playground is perfect for children to play in the pleasant spring weather. It’s also a good time for casual gatherings or outdoor birthday parties.

“I’m in West Columbia visiting family,” Hayley said. “We looked out of the window and saw this sweet little park and the girls could not wait to get over here. It’s so nice and shaded. It’s very quiet and peaceful out here, too. I’m glad we found it and it’s nice to know we have a place to play when we’re visiting West Columbia.”
