West Columbia Police warn of tax scams

The West Columbia Police Department is asking residents to be on the alert for tax scams.WCPD

“Tax time upon us. Scams pop-up this time of year, so please be wary of calls to your house by people portraying themselves as IRS employees,” states a reminder warns from the WCPD. And do not give out personal information. Getting personal information is a method used by scammers to steal from victims.

According to the note from the police department: “Typically the IRS will correspond with you through the mail. If the legitimacy of the caller comes into question request call back information and do some research before giving out your information. Please notify the police department of any suspicious situations that you encounter.”
