The West Columbia Police Department made an arrest in connection to an attempted murder and attempted armed robbery case that allegedly occurred Saturday on
Augusta Highway in West Columbia. Assistant West Columbia Police Chief Scott Morrison announced the arrest Tuesday.
Investigators have charged Lemont Michael B Smith, 27 of Santee S.C. with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during a
violent crime.
Smith, police said, approached a female at an ATM located at 3250 Augusta Rd. He attempted to rob the victim at gun point. During the robbery the victim was shot in the hand.
The suspect was booked at the Lexington County Detention center, where he is currently being held and awaiting bond.
