West Columbia plans budget, city administrator gets new contract

After meeting in a closed session, Tuesday night, West Columbia City Council voted to extend City

Carter was named city administrator 11 months ago, after the retirement of Jenny Cunningham.
Details of Carter’s contract were not disclosed at the meeting.
Also: leaders for city offices outlined items for the 2017-18 fiscal year budgets for their departments.
New patrol cars, another residential permit inspector and public works department equipment were among the items presented as needs to council.
Council scheduled a budget workshop for March 20 with city staff and department heads. The plan is to vote on the first reading of a budget on April 17, and second reading on May 2.
Carter said the budget will include a 2 percent cost-of-living raise for city employees, and 1-to-3 percent merit-based increases. Employee insurance costs are expected to rise by 8 percent.
