West Columbia planning gives final approval for Brookland
The West Columbia Planning Commission gave final approval to the plan for Brookland, Monday.
“It’s a done deal,” said Bill Mooneyhan, a member of the planning commission. Construction on the project that will cover more than four acres of high-profile West Vista real estate, is scheduled to begin later in 2016.
The Brookland plan has been approved by West Columbia City Council- but the vote Monday was the last part of the process- and sends the deal to West Columbia Administrator Brian Carter for a final signature. Matt Mundy- of the The Estates Co., the developer – was at Monday’s meeting, Mooneyhan said.
Brookland is a multi-million-dollar complex that will be built less than a block from the Congaree River at State and Meeting Streets. It will include up to 235 apartments and condos, with stores, restaurants and offices. The plan – that got final approval from the planning commission- calls for four multi-story structures with walkways, open spaces and plaza.
Monday’s vote solidifies a building plan- but changes can be made to it if those adjustments are presented to and approved by city council and the planning commission.
