West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles and former Mayor Bobby Horton

Tem Miles was elected West Columbia Mayor in November. With Christmas upon us, he has begun to settle into the job and he said he is very appreciative.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to serve as West Columbia mayor,” said Miles. He also said he holds his job in high esteem because of the mayors who came before him, “and all they have done” representing West West Columbia.

Miles said the City of West Columbia is much more than just the elected officials.

“I appreciate all of the employees and staff of West Columbia who work so hard,” Miles said.

Personally the new mayor said he will “Celebrate all that is Christmas” with his family. “My family, with my mother and father; we will enjoy time together,” said Miles. His family will also spend time with fellow parishioners. Wednesday night, Miles said he will attend Mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

As for food it will be Southern for the Miles family.”We’ll have deep fried turkey and bar-b-que” said Miles.

Former West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton, who stepped down in November, will be spending his first Christmas for a while without the title of mayor. He said he will enjoy the season.

“Christmas is a special time of the year,” said Horton. “It is a time to look back on the year. I’m very thankful for all the support I have received from the people of West Columbia over the years. We have a very rich community here, and that is apparent during the holidays. I especially want to wish the people of West Columbia, and everyone, a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. “

While some will be around the stove or a grill, others may not want to cook for the holiday.

If you don’t want to cook on Christmas day, Shoney’s at 2208 B Airport Blvd. West Columbia is open. Also reported as being open Christmas day are: Starbucks; McDonald’s; and Waffle House.
