Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway has identified the individual who drowned on Pawleys Island, Tuesday, as Darrell Lambert, 70, of West Columbia.

Mr. Lambert was helping his 9-year-old grandson, who was struggling with the current, when he was overtaken by the current. He was transported to Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Pawley’s Island Police reported that the man was brought to shore by a paddleboarder and given CPR, but he did not recover. Mr. Lambert may have gone into cardiac arrest before drowning.
