Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has released the name of the individual who died as a result of drowning in the river behind Riverbanks Zoo, 500 Wildlife Parkway, Columbia, at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday.

Deslin Lamar Mitchell, 37, of North Brown Street, West Columbia, went missing on Friday. His body was recovered from the river Saturday at approximately 2:15 p.m.  How Mitchell ended up in the river is not clear at this time.  An autopsy indicated the cause of death was due to drowning.
