Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individuals who died after being struck by multiple vehicles on Interstate 26 westbound near exit 113 at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, in Lexington County.
According to Fisher, Mr. Heriberto Martinez Torres, 32, of West Columbia, and Ms. Beatriz Adrianna Peña-Jose, 40, of Columbia were pronounced dead at the scene due to their injuries.
The vehicle that the two had been traveling in crashed into the barrier on the eastbound side of I-26. It appears they then exited their vehicle and walked across westbound lanes of I-26 when they were struck by two vehicles. Both drivers stopped to render aid. One of the drivers was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
