West Columbia is a unique destination, offering award-winning, high quality Bar-B-Que
Is West Columbia the BBQ capital of the world?
Before you answer, remember that there are four highly successful and highly acclaimed BBQ establishments in West Columbia.
You can base your BBQ rating on awards, media recognition, customer reaction or tradition, and West Columbia BBQ joints have something for every taste.
City Limits Q
City Limits Q is at 1119 Methodist Park Road in West Columbia. It specializes in authentic Texas and Carolina barbeque.

Robbie Robinson is the owner, pitmaster, and chef at City Limits Q. He has spent years perfecting his technique.
Since its brick-and-mortar opening in 2023, City Limits Q has been showered with accolades.(City Limits operated as a food truck for 7 years before opening in its current location.)
City Limit’s Q has been named: Southern Living’s No. 1 BBQ Joint In The South in 2025; a James Beard Best Chef Southeast Finalist in 2024 and 2025; among The New York Times Top 50 Restaurants In America in 2024 and in Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ Outside of Texas.
Southern Living praised City Limits’ “tender brisket with a deep red smoke ring, hot links crackling with red pepper beneath a taut casing, succulent beef ribs that slip from the massive bone into long, delicious strands.”

Robbie said the beef he uses is part of the reason City Limits Q is so good.
“We use no hormone, no antibiotic brisket,” he said. “The beef is aged longer and that enhances the beef flavor. “You can taste the difference in the longer-aged, higher quality meat,” he said.

Robbie also said the cook-method, using all-wood burning pits, incorporated by his staff of six, is “very labor intensive.”
City Limits Q is served only from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and on Sundays from noon-until-3 p.m.
Hites BBQ
Where is BBQ a long-time West Columbia tradition?
David Hite’s grandfather opened Hite’s restaurant in 1957. David started cooking bar-b-que with his father and grandfather at the age of five. Now he runs the award-winning bar-b-que joint at 240 Dreher Road, West Columbia. And not much has changed. David cooks the pork, ribs, and chickens over oak and hickory wood using the same smokers, and recipe, that have been in his family for decades.
“We cook our bar-b-que slow so it will be tender and delicious,” David said.
Hite’s has been recognized by Esquire Magazine and it was named No. 5 on the Best SC BBQ joints in the South by Southern Living magazine. And in recent years, Hite’s has been featured at “Taste on the River” held in June at Stone River in West Columbia.
Hite’s has been reviewed by “I Love SC BBQ” and “I Love South Carolina.” Discover South Carolina also featured David in its “Pit Master Profile.”
