West Columbia was the second-fastest growing municipality in Lexington County, according to 2020 Census numbers released Thursday. West Columbia had a population 17,416 in 2020 and it grew by 16.2 percent from 2010 to 2020.

Cayce’s population was 13,971 and it grew by 11.52 percent.

Other close-by municipalities added population. Pine Ridge grew by five percent and has a population of 2,167 and Springdale grew by more than one percent and had a population of 2,953. South Congaree’s population grew by .75 percent to 3,504.

The Town of Lexington grew by 32 percent overall, adding almost 6,000 people to a population of 23,568 people. It showed the most growth in Lexington County’s municipalities.

Lexington County is the fastest-growing county in the region known as the Midlands, according to new data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Lexington County’s population grew by 12 percent from 2010 to 2020. Richland County grew by 8 percent. Lexington County’s population was listed at 293,991 Lexington County ranked 12th in pro-growth rate out of South Carolina’s 46 counties.
