Christina Suvarna was the face behind the HEMI Food Truck Court. She met with City of West Columbia officials, on numerous occasions, to get the project off the ground.

In announcing the closing of the food court, Suvarna thanked all of the people who supported it. She also said the food court did not establish a customer base large enough to sustain it.
The food court opened in March. But the months after were marked by extremely high temperatures.
“We tried to survive the heat in the 100s,” Suvarna said.

At times, there were as many as six trucks on the food court site. The trucks focused on attracting a lunch crowd. There were evening events at the food court site, too. Including a movie night.

Suvarna said despite its closing, there is still potential for a successful food court and she plans to try the concept again soon. She also invited customers to The Beast food truck that is at the Soda City Market on Columbia’s Main Street from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
