Several residents of West Columbia wanted to show their appreciation to the city’s first responders.

A luncheon was held Tuesday at the Stone River facility for West Columbia Police and West Columbia Fire personnel. It was sponsored by Westover Acres Community Crimewatch Club, Quail Ridge Homeowners Association, the Guignard Neighborhood Association, and the Saluda Gardens Neighborhood Association.

“It’s a way to say ‘thank you,'” said Madison Duncan, “for all that they do for our community.” Duncan helped organize the event.

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson spoke to the group, and invited them to Washington DC for a visit. Wilson’s son, S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson offered the pre-meal prayer, giving thanks for the sacrifices of the police, fire and emergency personnel.

West Columbia Police Chief Dennis Tyndall said he was grateful for the effort that was made to honor the first responders.

Tem Miles, West Columbia Mayor Pro Tem, was in attendance, along with state Sen. Nikki Setzler, who helped serve food.
West Columbia Council members Erin Porter and Mike Green were also on hand.
