West Columbia Fire Department looks to add fire truck as volume of calls increases with growth

West Columbia City Council discussed adding a fire truck to the West Columbia Fire Department’s fleet. A new fire truck could be in operation in late 2025, and another more-specialized truck could be added in 2026 or later. The WCFD has the highest ISO rating possible.

WCFD Chief Marquis Solomon spoke to council regarding the purchase of a Ladder Truck, and other emergency response equipment.

Solomon said the truck that is being considered is more of a standard vehicle and the time it takes from placing the order until delivery is 6-to-8 months. The second fire truck being considered would take longer to get because it’s a custom-build. There is a need for new equipment.

“We have a steady increase in call-volume,” Solomon said. He also said council is considering getting the order for the second truck in earlier if possible because costs are expected to increase.

“We want to be fiscally responsible to the taxpayers of West Columbia,” Solomon said.
