West Columbia distributing new, large recycle bins

The City of West Columbia has begun distributing the new 95-gallon roll carts into its recycling rollcart2-1pickup schedule.
“The goal of the new carts is to encourage residents to increase the amount they recycle, save city resources, and reduce litter that ends up on the roads and in storm drains,” said Director of Public Works Jamie Hook.
With the increase in size of the container, the city will now pick up recycling every other week.
Before the new containers, some city residents had 65-gallon recycle bins. Before that everyone had the small, green 18-gallon recycle containers.
Residents will have the option of keeping their existing bins and carts if they choose. For customers who want to get the new 95-gallon roll carts, the old cart will be picked up by the West Columbia Sanitation Department if the customer leaves the bin, empty, by the side of the road on the same day as the customer’s regular recycling pick-up.
rollcart1Distribution of the new carts started last week. Delivery of the carts to city residents will continue for the next four weeks.
