West Columbia City Council passes Resolution Recognizing Charles R. Shealy on the Celebration of His 100th Birthday
West Columbia City Council passed a Resolution, Tuesday, Recognizing Charles R. Shealy on the Celebration of His 100th Birthday, during the city council meeting. MR. Shealy is still an active golfer. He said he hopes all of us live to be 100, so we can see how many friends and family supporters we have.
Resolution Recognizing Charles R. Shealy on the Celebration of His 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Charles R. Shealy was born on May 2,1923, in Leesville, South Carolina. Charles R. Shealy
attended school in the Batesburg-Leesville area growing up and has lived in West Columbia for most of
his adult life; and WHEREAS, Charles R. Shealy is the father of Carol Shealy Ballew and Charles Shealy, Jr., as well as
Jimi Shealy, who preceded him in death. Mr. Shealy has two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, Charles R. Shealy is a World War II Veteran with the United States Army Air Corps where
he served as a tail-gunner on a B-25 Mitchell bomber. Mr. Shealy was in Okinawa for a short time before
the Japanese surrender; and
WHEREAS, Charles R. Shealy owned Capital Appliances and Hardware in Columbia and Home
Furniture in Irmo. Mr. Shealy is a former Five Points Civitan member, long-time member at Mid Carolina
Club, where he plays golf weekly, and a member of Green Hill Baptist Church where he has faithfully
served in many roles; and
Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of West Columbia does
hereby recognize and congratulate Charles R. Shealy on celebrating his 100th birthday and
commemorate this date as yet another precious milestone in his life and history.
