West Columbia City Council approves contract for the repair of Riverwalk to begin
West Columbia City Council voted, Tuesday, to approve Crescent Industries, LLC as the contractor to repair the West Columbia Riverwalk damage. The damage was caused by Hurricane Helene in October. The amount of the contract for the repair work is $201,095.
The terms of the contract will now be presented to FEMA for approval. Once FEMA approves the contract, work to repair Riverwalk can begin.
Tara Greenwood, West Columbia’s Asst. City Administrator of Development, said as soon as FEMA issues a “Notice to Proceed” the contractor is ready to begin the repair work. The contractor has 120 days (or 4 months) to finish the repair, but Greenwood said the contractor will work on an “aggressive timeline” in an effort to get the repair completed in less time than 120 days.
Riverwalk has damaged concrete, washed-out areas, compromised boards on the boardwalk and a sinkhole. All of Riverwalk will be closed for the repair work to take place, including the amphitheater, so that the contractor can bring in materials that will be used for the repair.
