USC Athletics Department graphic above: The South Carolina Women’s Basketball team defeated Iowa, 87-75, Sunday afternoon to win the National Championship. The team finished with a record of 38-0.

It’s Dawn Staley’s third National Championship at South Carolina. The game was played in Cleveland, OH. Staley lives in West Columbia and West Columbia was full of pride after the Gamecocks won the National Title. Link to celebration coverage on ABC’s World News Tonight

West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles posted a photo of his family beside the Gamecock in The Vista and said: “Out on the town to celebrate the big win.” Dawn Staley Day is held in West Columbia in May, on Staley’s birthday.
