West Columbia Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison retired after 26 years of service from the WCPD.
The City of West Columbia held a reception last week to congratulate Morrison upon his retirement. The West Columbia City Council also passed a resolution to honor Morrison on June 21. Its contents are posted below.

“I can’t say thank you enough to (Morrison) for the wonderful job he has done for our city,” stated Miles. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to him on his retirement and wish him the very best going forward.
Miles also said Morrison is a great man and he served us well.

Resolution Recognizing Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison Upon His Retirement for 26 Years of Service to the City of West Columbia

  • WHEREAS, Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison grew up in Irmo, South Carolina and is the son of Larry and
    Patricia Morrison. He is married to Laura Privette Morrison and the father of Emily and Hunter Morrison; and
  • WHEREAS, Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison graduated from Irmo High School in 1990. In 1994, he
    graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice; and
  • WHEREAS, Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison began his career with the West Columbia Police Department
    on March 20,1995 as a Jailer/Patrol Officer. Throughout his employment with the West Columbia Police
    Department, he has also served as Road Sergeant, Training Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Patrol Captain, and
    Administrative Captain. He has served as the Assistant Police Chief since 2016; and
  • WHEREAS, Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations
    National Academy (FBINA) in 2012, South Carolina Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee/Law
    Enforcement Officers Association Commander School in 2016, and Local Government Leadership Institute in
    2020; and
  • WHEREAS, Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison has worked as a volunteer with West Columbia’s Wellness
    Committee, Holy Pursuits Dream Foundation, and the West Columbia Police Officers’ Foundation. He is the
    founder of the West Columbia Police Officers’ Foundation golf tournament and was awarded the West
    Columbia Police Department’s Jackie Brothers’ Integrity Award in 2014; and
  • WHEREAS, Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison will retire from the City of West Columbia on June 30, 2021,
    after twenty-six years in law enforcement. His entire career has been dedicated to serving the City of West
    Columbia and its citizens; and
  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of West Columbia does
    hereby congratulate and recognize Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison on his retirement, and honor him for
    his twenty-six years of dedicated service to public safety, and the citizens of West Columbia. Assistant Police
    Chief Morrison’s dedication, professionalism, and leadership will be remembered by this Council, Police
    Department, and the employees of West Columbia. City Council wishes Assistant Police Chief Morrison
    continued success in his future endeavors.
