Well-known Naturalist Rudy Mancke, a regular on the Cayce Riverwalk, has died at age 78

Rudy Mancke became well-known for his NatureScene shows on SCETV. He had been suffering with liver disease and died Tuesday night. Mancke was 78.

Mancke conducted regular tours on the Cayce Riverwalk where he would educate interested parties about plants, insects and any other form of wildlife that he came across during his nature walks.

Columbia artist and former Lexington Two art teacher Melanie Ward was saddened by his death.

“His wonderment for nature and his knowledge he shared was infectious,” she posted on Facebook. “He has been a hero of mine since I first went on a nature walk in Clemson with him when I was 12. What a life well lived. What a tremendous loss for all of us.” Rudy Mancke, below, on the Cayce Riverwalk:
