Last week, Walmart announced that it was closing 154 Walmart stores in the United States. But a company spokeswoman said the Walmart Neighborhood Grocery being built in Cayce would not be affected by the closing of the Walmart stores.

The Walmart in Winnsoboro was the only Supercenter Walmart store reported as closing in South Carolina. There were some smaller Express convenience stores closed in the state, too.

There have also been media reports that Walmart has plans to build a store in the Emmanuel Church Road area of Lexington County. But the company spokeswoman said “there’s nothing to report at this time” in regard to any plans for a store there.
