The Lexington Police Department responded to an incident in the eastbound lane of Columbia Avenue, overnight Thursday and early Friday morning.

A vehicle struck a fire hydrant and the eastbound lanes of Columbia Avenue (US-378) at Berly Street were closed. Police asked drivers to seek an alternate route until the road reopened.

All lanes were reopened at around midnight, but there is some dirt covering the road near Berly Street. It is expected that it will be cleaned up by the Town of Lexington and the SC Department of Transportation early Friday morning. LPD Photo
