Vandals take Confederate flags from Lexington monument

The Davis monument on U.S. 1 after the Confederate flags were ripped from it.

Three Confederate flags were taken from the Jefferson Davis Highway monument on U.S. 1 in the Oak Grove area of Lexington County.

Lexington County sheriff’s deputies are looking for the vandals who took the flags.

Sheriff’s deputies received an anonymous tip letting them know the flags were missing flags, said Lexington County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Adam Myrick. Myrick said it is believed the flags were taken Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s department is continuing to investigate the crime.
