UPDATED – Woman charged in fatal hit-and-run, coroner identifies victim

Ashley Nicole Burkhard, 33, of West Columbia, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. She was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center.

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Lexington County late Saturday, and the S.C. Highway Patrol is asking for help to locate the driver.

The incident happened between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Nazareth Road near Wando Circle. It happened in the Red Bank area of the county, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle while walking south on Nazareth Road. The vehicle was traveling south, too, said Southern. The driver then drove away.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Highway Patrol at 1-800-768-1501 or 803-896-9621.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the pedestrian who was killed due to being struck Saturday at approximately 09:45  p.m.  in the 1000 block of Nazareth Road in Lexington.

According to Fisher, Mr. Davontaye Laquan Radell Washington, 21, was killed. Washington was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
