Tunnel to Towers run through West Columbia and Cayce commemorates 911
American patriotism was on display vividly, Friday evening as the Tunnel to Towers Foundation run came through West Columbia and Cayce.
Commemorating the tragedy of 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation celebrates heroism and supports fallen and injured first responders, military heroes and their families. This year the run started at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and came through West Columbia and Cayce. It included hundreds of runners and walkers and resulted in the raising of almost $52,000.
West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles came out to thank West Columbia Police and Fire units for supporting the Tunnels to Tower Run.
“It’s hard to comprehend it’s been 20 years since the 911 attack’s,” said Miles. “But this is a time to remember the brave heroes and the first responders who make sacrifices every day to protect us.”
A large American flag hung from a West Columbia fire truck ladder at the end of the Gervais Street Bridge. Cayce hoisted a flag over a a fire truck ladder on Alexander Road, too. Cayce Public Safety personnel directed the runners.
