Truck fire on I-26 results in the closing of lanes, Wednesday afternoon, after gas tank erupts, Irmo Fire responds
Just after 1:30 Thursday afternoon, Irmo Fire District units were dispatched to a vehicle fire on I-26, eastbound at mile 105. There was a tractor-trailer with the cab section fully involved and fire was spreading to the trailer.
The driver safely escaped the truck before the fire got into the cab, and the trailer was empty. The diesel tanks were nearly full and one of them caught fire and created a dangerous situation for passing motorists and firefighters. I-26 and nearby Jamil Road was closed until the fire was under control.
As of 2:15, one lane was open, and a second lane was open by 3 p.m. The right lane was closed for several more hours, while the site was cleared. Irmo Fire District photos
