Torrential rains cause West Columbia “brooks” to rage

It seems like it has been raining almost every day for a long time.

West Columbia was first named Brookland because of the may streams that run through it.

Those streams have become raging torrents at times because there has been so much precipitation. This brook, in the photo, is off of Redbird Drive in Westover Acres. It drains into the Double-Branch on Botanical Parkway.

The forecast for Friday calls for a 90 percent chance of more rain with a high of 51 degrees.

The rain is expected to end Friday afternoon. The forecast is for partly cloudy skies tonight with a low of 30 degrees. The sun is supposed to return Saturday with a high of 50.
