Torrential rains bring flash floods Wednesday evening – See raging creek video
The National Weather Service in Columbia issued a * Flash Flood Warning for parts of Lexington County, Wednesday evening.
At 5:43 p.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches were possible in the area. Flash flooding, caused by thunderstorms, was ongoing.
Flash flooding was occurring in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that experienced flash flooding were: Columbia, West Columbia, Cayce, Forest Acres, Camden, Springdale, Dentsville, St. Andrews, Oak Grove, Pine Ridge, Elgin, Arcadia Lakes, Fort Jackson, Sesquicentennial State Park, Woodfield, Five Points, SC State Fair Grounds, West Columbia Riverwalk, Lugoff and Riverbanks Zoo. Including the following highways: Interstate 126 between mile markers 0 and 3. Interstate 26 between mile markers 108 and 115. Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 65 and 97. Interstate 77 between mile markers 0 and 19.
