Tartan Day South Highland Games and Celtic Festival kicks off Thursday

The Tartan Day South Highland Games and Celtic Festival will take place at the Historic Columbia Speedway, beginning, Thursday (March 31) through Sunday (April 3.) It’s 10th annual Tartan Day South.

Tartan Day South honors the Celtic culture and heritage in South Carolina’s Midlands region. The traditions of the United Kingdom – Ireland, Scotland and England are showcased. The main event is in Cayce at the Historic Columbia Speedway on Saturday, other free and paid events are held in West Columbia, Cayce and  Lexington.

Tartan Day South is held to benefit the nonprofit River Alliance, which has the mission of connecting people to the Broad, Saluda and Congaree rivers– while protecting the rivers, too.

The Tartan Day South kick off party is Thursday at the British Bulldog Pub with music from EJ Campbell. Friday’s events will feature a Celtic concert at Icehouse Amphitheater in Lexington. Saturday’s highland games & Celtic festival will feature games, music, traditional foods and more. Events will wrap up on Sunday, with “Kirkin’ of the Tartans,” a bagpipe display at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater at 11 a.m.
