The Lexington Two school year ended last Friday and lots of West Columbia kids are looking for ways to spend their summer. There are many summer camp opportunities in West Columbia.

East Point Academy is offering several camps this summer, from June until the end of July.
“Our goal is to provide parents and students with a variety of options for the Summer, so that each student can find a program that is exciting and inspiring for them, said Mark Bounds, Head of School.

East Point Academy’s Middle Campus is on Chris Drive and its Elementary Campus is on Leaphart Street, off of Sunset Boulevard. Both are in west Columbia.

East Point Summer Days Camp’s of everything from “Stop Motion Animation” to “Archery” to “Panda Star” camp.
East Point Academy has something for every child this Summer said Channing Anderson, spokeswoman for East Point Academy. The camps follow the same safety protocols the school followed all year. Camp options also include: Academic Recovery for grades 5K-8th; PandaMonium Fun Camp, and New Panda Mandarin Camp. There is also a “Piano Camp ” and a “Once Upon a Panda” camp. Drama campers are working on a production of “Alice in Wonderland.”

The STEAM Summer Camp at Glenforest School at 1041 Harbor Drive West Columbia kicked off Monday. STEAM highlights: Science; Technology; Engineering; Art; and Math skills.

The Glenforest STEAM Camp runs every week until July 23, except for the week of July 5-9. Link to Glenforest Summer Click for camp info:

“We have 11 kids here this first week,” said Jay Robinson, Glenforest’s director of transitional services. “This week we are making a cardboard city.”

The camp has 11 kids, ages 8-to-16 and about half are Glenforest students and the other half come from all over. There are spots remaining for the rest of the weeks it’s open this summer.

“Our cardboard city has a hospital, a Chic -fil – A and a fire station,” said Robinson. He said campers use engineering, art and math skills to build the city.

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden Camp offers unique and engaging experiences to connect kids with wildlife. Zoo campers explore little-known areas of Riverbanks Zoo while at the camp. It’s for campers as young as age three (with an adult) to sixth graders.

The kids get to engage with zoo animals face-to-face and each camp includes hands-on activities and experiences connected to the day or week’s theme. The day camps started on June 14 and run each week. The last camp begins on Aug. 9.

The Lexington County Recreation Commission conducts Summer Day Camps at the: Tri-City Leisure Center. The camp is for kids from kindergarten age to sixth grade.

At the camp, kids play dodgeball, basketball, along with participation in arts and crafts and other activities, including field trips.
