Steel Hands Brewing named Business of the Quarter, Palmetto Outdoors is Tourism Program of the Quarter
The businesses were celebrated at the the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber Breakfast, Tuesday.
Steel Hands Brewery in Cayce was named Business of the Quarter and Palmetto Outdoors was named Tourism Program of the Quarter. , Scott Lambert is the owner of Steel Hands and Michael owns Palmetto Outdoors. Both were on hand to accept their awards.
“Steel Hands has dedicated themselves to quality, expertise, commitment and community officially opened in December of 2018,” said Tim James Chamber CEO/President. “Taking a gamble, they built upon 4 acres of land in an area that many didn’t understand why- the leadership had vision and an unprecedented sense of faith as they firmly planted their footprint along a road that only a steel plant existed, and now becoming the largest production brewery in the Midlands.
“Once opening the doors they recognized a flow of customers that became their constant, – the leadership thought outside the box to make it easy for a “Columbia crowd” to be bussed to their establishment- and as time flew by, their product became a “go to staple” in grocery stores and restaurants – They did not allow COVID to stop them getting their product to the user, as they opened the sliding window and provided sales.”
Steel Hands Brewery is extremely philanthropic, hosting events for non-profits, Arts and Sports programs.
Palmetto Outdoors
“To quote the owner Michael Mayo, “it all began with a couple of floats, life jackets and a desire to get people outside,” said Tim James Chamber CEO/President.
Just this summer alone, over 10,000 people have come to the Greater CWC area to enjoy our rivers, – yes, more than 10,000 people since the weather has warmed up have floated down the rapids from the Zoo to the West Columbia Amphitheatre. Just a few weeks ago, (the last weekend of July) an all-time record was broken, as over 700 people went down the river on the same day- and over 1000 people in that specific weekend.
This is tourism with an economic drive at its very best, .. with over 50% of these visitors coming from areas of more than 50 miles away, – and when them come to float the river, they also stay local, they eat local, they shop local and yes – they Love Local.
