State Street Salon is open for business at 128 State Street, West Columbia. It’s in the former location of Clark’s Beauty Shop.

Kelly Howell, a USC graduate with a masters, who taught first-grade for 10 years is the owner. The Clark family owned Clark’s Beauty Shop that opened at the site in the 1940s.

Randy Clark still owns the property that his grandmother opened. The whole Clark family, including Randy, worked for Clark’s Beauty Shop. It was a centerpiece for business on State Street at one time.

Howell has photos from the shop when the Clark’s opened it. Two other photos depict scenes from the shop with customers being served.
