The Town of Springdale will install a new splash pad at the site where there is an older water feature. Springdale plans to install new splash pad beside town hall

“We hope to have it ready for use this summer,” said Springdale Mayor Michael Bishop.

The new splash pad will be 40 ft. by 40 ft. said Bishop. It will feature a palm tree with water shooting out, and there will be additional water jets in the splash pad. Water jetting will be on a timer, initiated by touch.

“It will be much bigger than what we have now,” said Bishop. He also said the new splash pad will be ADA accessible.

Bishop said the current water pipe in the Felton C. Benton Splash Pool and Park beside Town Hall, off of Platt Springs Road, draws hundreds in the summer, looking for a place for some cool water.  “We’re Springdale,” said Bishop, “We’re supposed to have water.”

Bishop said he feels sure the new six-figure splash pad will materialize, but the funding for the project is still being put together. Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is one source to help pay for the splash pad. Bishop said the project is also eligible for accommodations tax funding since it will draw visitors.
