Spring will be here soon, events are plentiful in West Columbia
West Columbia has already gotten a dose of spring, with rising temperatures. Warm weather will be here to stay in the next few weeks- and there is a lot going on outside.
Kirkin of the Tartans
On Sunday, March 25, at 11 a.m., the West Columbia Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater becomes a part of Tartan Day South. Kirkin of the Tartans is a tradition in Celtic culture, said John Banks of the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber’s Tourism and Visitor’s Bureau. He is the founder of Tartan Day South.
“Kirkin of the Tartans is literally a blessing of the families,” said Banks. He said the West Columbia event on March 25 includes songs, and a service similar to a Presbyterian Church, with a sermon. “It’s a traditional Scottish closing of an event,” said Banks.
Banks also said you can catch brunch while enjoying Kirkin of the Tartans Soda City and West Columbia’s new Brookland development have partnered to present the only riverside brunch. It’s every Sunday from 10 a.m.until 2 p.m. at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater.
From waffles and coffee to chocolates and ethnic food, the Brookland Brunch vendors vary.
Banks also said there are a high number of visitors from West Columbia to the Annual Tartan Day South Celebration.
Tartan Day South is a four-day event honoring Celtic heritage. The festival offers different events at many different venues featuring unique sports, incredible music, great foods and interactive as well as interesting exhibitions. The City of West Columbia is a sponsor that attracts close to 11,000 people. And close to 7,000 come from the immediate local area.
Rhythm on the River
The 2018 CMC Spring Rhythm on the River Concert Series is every Saturday in April and May. The popular shows are from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater.
“For fourteen seasons, the CMC Rhythm on the River has been a great example of a partnership between the Greater Cayce West Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber’s Business Members and the City of West Columbia,” said Richard Skipper, the Chamber’s executive director. “This year we are excited to be back at the Riverwalk Amphitheater, which the City of West Columbia has renovated using Hospitality Tax funds. This music series features local and regional music artists, food trucks and the best view of the river in the Midlands. New for this year is the addition of a weekly “dessert” truck feature and the Department of Agriculture will be featuring a South Carolina Grown or Specialty Vendor each week. The City of West Columbia will also be providing shuttle service from nearby parking lots to help with the ease of parking.
