South Carolina Department of Administration Executive Director Marcia Adams announced the launch, Tuesday, of the recruitment website, careers.sc.gov. The website is part of the state’s first-ever statewide recruitment initiative.

“State employees provide many services that benefit their neighbors every day. From the information technology and security specialists who enhance the security of state systems and data, to the troopers who patrol South Carolina highways, to the biologists who help protect ecosystems during road construction projects, there is no better way to make a difference and love what you do than to work for the state of South Carolina,” said Adams. “I encourage everyone to visit careers.sc.gov and discover the possibilities that will impact their future and the state’s.”

Recruiters want to make sure job-seekers know as much as possible about careers with the state.

“The purpose of the Statewide Recruitment Initiative and website is to help change the perception of what it means to work for state government,” said Kelly Coakley director of strategic communications. “State employees provide many services that directly help citizens. When you work for the state you get to make a difference every day. Through this effort, we hope to encourage more people to consider a career in state government.”

• The Statewide Recruitment Initiative is a collaborative effort with multiple state agencies to:
o Help change the perception of working for state government.
o Establish and build the state’s recruitment brand.
o Encourage more people to pursue state careers.
• The following state agencies worked to establish the state’s recruitment brand and website:
o South Carolina Department of Administration
o South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles
o South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism
o South Carolina Department of Public Safety
o South Carolina Department of Revenue
• Approximately 1,400 jobs are available with the state as of August 2018.
• Employment opportunities with the state of South Carolina range from accountants to zoologists.
These jobs can be searched through a recently redesigned website, careers.sc.gov.

• The state offers comprehensive health and dental coverage, as well as retirement and saving
options that have become less common in the private sector.
• Currently, the state offers two options: a defined benefit (pension) plan and a defined contribution
plan, which works like a 401(k) plan.
• The state offers a robust leave package that allows for 15 days of annual leave, 15 days of sick leave
and 13 paid holidays, which helps employees excel at work, be involved in the community and
manage their personal responsibilities.
