Snow covers Lexington County, West Columbia closes parks, Cayce issues icy roads report
The snow began to fall around 3 Tuesday afternoon. Lexington County got at least an inch of snow, and some areas got more than that. Snow totals were up to 2 inches on cars, and yards were covered.
From the National Weather Service – Columbia: “The last lingering snow showers have pushed east but snow covered and icy roadways will remain throughout the morning as temps stay in the 20’s. Clear skies will slowly help clear things up in the afternoon.”
Roads had a layer of snow on them by Wednesday morning, which is making driving hazardous. Stay off the roads unless it’s necessary. If you do get on the road, exercise caution.
The City of Cayce issued a roads report Wednesday morning:
- *Black ice from Knox Abbott from the Blossom Street Bridge to Charleston Highway.
- *Black ice on 12th Street from Frink St. to I-77
- *Ice and snow from Charleston Hwy/Fish Hatchery to I-26
- *Snow on Airport Blvd. from I-26 to the CAE Airport
Due to inclement weather, West Columbia City Hall and all West Columbia parks will remain closed on Wednesday (Jan. 22.) There will not be yard trash pickup on Wednesday. Stay informed via local media, our city website, or the WeCo Info App for updates. For road closure details, visit Bit.ly/WECORoadClosures.
The massive snow storm covered an area from Myrtle Beach to Columbia and Aiken. The storm was part of a system that brought a rare snowfall to the Deep South including the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle.
