Site plan approved for Lexington 2’s newest Elementary School
The cost for preliminary work was approved for Lexington Two’s second new elementary school, on Thursday.
Ginny Kirk, of Thompson Turner Construction told the School Board the early site and foundation package would cost $4.6 million. The work is part of the overall cost of the school.
The two-story facility is being built in West Columbia off of Sunset Boulevard, adjacent to Northside Middle School. Builders also presented renderings of the school during the meeting.
The school will house grades K-through-2 on the ground floor and grades 3, 4 and 5 on the second floor. Elementary School 2 (as it is called) will be designed like Cayce Elementary School, except it will be 10,000-sq-ft bigger because of a larger enrollment.
The school will take students from BC Grammar No. 1 and Pineview Elementary.
Kirk said the total price package for the school’s construction should be ready in April.
An outlet road – that will allow passage onto Hummingbird Drive- for staff vehicles- is being planned. And the school will have 170 parking spaces, Architect Todd Sease said.
Sease also said the traffic study has been done and the S.C. Department of Transportation will present recommendations regarding changes related to that outlet road. Developers are awaiting word from DOT on any possible changes.
The school is being built with funds from the $225 million bond referendum passed by district voters in November 2014. Click on images below to enlarge.
