Shooting reported in Leesville involving officer

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department reported an officer-involved shooting in Leesville, Monday afternoon.

And now Lexington County deputies are searching for a suspect who  pulled a gun on a deputy.

According to a sheriff’s department report, a suspect pulled a handgun on a Lexington County deputy along Devils Backbone Road.

According to the report, the officer was flagged down by a citizen about the suspicious person, who reportedly was in the middle of the road. When the deputy made contact with the person,  the suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at the deputy, who then fired his service weapon.

It is not known if the suspect was hit by gunfire.

The suspect fled into the woods near the scene. A perimeter was set up for a search and a K-9 unit was used to track down the suspect, but were the dogs were able to find him.

Deputies are also looking for the woman who flagged down the deputy. The Sheriff’s Department said investigators would like to talk to her.
