Sherry Rabon, popular for her association with Compton’s Kitchen, passes away

The West Columbia community is mourning the loss of Sharon “Sherry” Rabon. She died late Saturday evening.
“She fought hard. She battled Stage 4 lung cancer and it finally overcame her,” said Otis Rabon, Sherry’s husband.

Sherry was also the daughter of G.L. Locklear, West Columbia’s historical researcher. She was a mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother.

Locklear said Sherry was well-known among the regulars at Compton’s Kitchen on B Avenue in West Columbia.

“She worked as an employee and a manager at Compton’s,” Locklear said. “In all she worked at Compton’s for around 30 years. She worked for all three owners of Compton’s.”

Otis said he is planning a celebration of life gathering for his wife. It will be in a “couple of weeks” he said.
