A fierce storm blew through Lexington County, West Columbia, Cayce and Springdale, early Monday morning. High winds, heavy rains, and severe thunderstorms hit the area around 530 a.m. By 6:30 a.m. the worst had blown over. At 6:37 a.m., the National Weather Service in Columbia had canceled the tornado watch for Lexington County, but others were still in effect.

There have been possible tornado touchdowns in South Carolina. Warning were issued in the Neeses, North area. Pay attention to local weather updates. Be ready to take safety precautions immediately.

There was a report of a fallen tree on I 26 EB between Augusta Rd/Exit 111 and Airport Blvd/ Exit 113. Power was out on Maribou Circle, West Columbia.

The Town of Lexington downed trees, power lines and flooded roadways/parking lots. Don’t drive through flooded roadways/parking lots. Be alert as signal lights may have lost power.

Pilgrim Church Road in Lexington was closed due to multiple trees down in the roadway and several collisions. Downed trees and power lines has Reed Avenue near Pine Street closed.

Lexington Police also reported responding to three separate collisions that had occurred in the areas of Sunset Blvd. and on Pilgrims Church Road. Police asked motorists to stay home to avoid driving during this severe weather event which is causing downed trees, power lines and flooded roadways.
