Christmas is a time when families can come together and time is spent with loved ones. Many businesses close for the holidays in order to give employees a chance to enjoy the peacefulness of the season. 

Hanukkah is observed by followers of the Jewish faith. It began this year on Dec. 18 and will end in the evening of Monday, Dec. 26. Hanukkah is celebrated for eight days and reaffirms the ideals of Judaism and includes the lighting of candles on each day of the festival.

“I hope this is a time of peace for all of the West Columbia community,” said Mayor Tem Miles. “We certainly wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah. I am so thankful to live in such a wonderful place, especially at this time of the year.” 

The City of West Columbia City Hall will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 26-27, in observance of the Christmas holidays. Regular hours will resume on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

The City of West Columbia City Hall will be closed Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. City Hall will also close at noon on Friday, Dec. 23.

Where can you dine out on Christmas Day? 

Most West Columbia restaurants are closed on Christmas, but some will be open for those who want to step out for their Christmas meal.

Blossom Buffet, at 2515 Sunset Boulevard, is open on Christmas Day. It will be open from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Blossom Buffet is a Chinese cuisine buffet that offers vegetables, noodles, house chicken, salads, and 76 other dishes. There is also a sushi and hibachi bar.

Also on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia, near the I-26 Exit,  two restaurants, known for always being open, will be open Christmas Day.

Denny’s is at 2514 Sunset Boulevard and Waffle House (beside Denny’s) is at 2510 Sunset Boulevard. Waffle House serves American diner fare and all-day breakfast. Denny’s is open 24 hours and it’s open on Christmas Day. Denny’s is an American cuisine restaurant and offers breakfast, brunch and lunch. 

There is also a Waffle House at 2506 Augusta Road, and another one at 2846 Charleston Highway. Both of those are in West Columbia.
