The National Weather Service in Columbia issued a weather update.
12:33 pm: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for counties along and south of I-20. Gusts over 40 mph are possible this evening into tonight. Rain increasing in intensity later this afternoon through tonight with widespread 4 to 8 inch amounts leading to flash flooding.
Peak hours for the strongest winds would be around midnight. Gusts will likely continue through 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend near Keaton Beach at around 7:45 a.m. It termed a “major” hurricane when it came ashore. The National Hurricane Center reported maximum sustained winds of 125 mph. Winds have since reduced. Lexington County is under a Tropical Storm warning as of 11 a.m. Wednesday.
