Scenic Rabbit Run through the streets of Cayce, West Columbia, and Riverwalk – Photo Gallery
The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber’s Cares Foundation Riverwalk Rabbit Run took place Saturday morning. There were 277 runners.
The run follwed a scenic route starting on State Street in West Columbia’s River District and proceeding into Cayce’s Arts District before entering the Cayce Riverwalk. The run came off of the Riverwalk at the Blossom Street Bridge and turned at the historic Guignard Brickworks onto Alexander Road, and ending at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater.
Before the race, C-WC Chamber President and CEO Tim James asked the crowd to remember the victims of the tragedy of the Pine Ridge Middle School bus crash that took the life of a 13-year-old boy and injured several others. Pastor Eddie Coakley of Trinity Baptist Church said the pre-race prayer.
The Brookland-Cayce High School Honors Choir sang the National Anthem. A BCHS pep band inspired the runners with music as they ran past the school on State Street.
James said the Rabbit Run is the only 5K allowed to run on Riverwalk. Proceeds from the run go to schools and a fund for small businesses that experience a tragedy.
